Since this is a general introduction, no attempt has been made to orient this Reading Plan around one subject or one theme. We have tried to provide fifteen selections that are at once interesting, diverse, easy enough to be rewarding on a first reading, and difficult enough to offer a challenge to all readers - experts as well as beginners.

A lifetime of learning

The Great Ideas Program is unfortunately out of print, so if you see it listed, snap it up because it is well worth your money. Made to accompany the original edition of the Great Books of the Western World and meant to be a detailed expansion/alternate of its Ten Year Reading plan. The Program can also be used with the new edition, or with translations of the books purchased separately, with a little adaptation. The Program offers introductions, historical context and ties to other Great Books and authors. As it is divided topically, it can also be used for a focused course of study. The authors present in each volume 15 works to be read and studied over 2 weeks each, finishing with a list of questions to verify your understanding of the work. Beyond an education, this Program is an experience in immersing yourself in some of the Greatest works of the human mind.
