Sharp, a former addict, presents a short, unsentimental and practical step-by-step guide to what methamphetamine addicts will face if they decide to quit. With patience, optimism and self-deprecating humor—not to mention an authoritative tone from his insider’s knowledge—Sharp makes the entire experience of quitting and getting healthy seem not only possible but deeply alluring. This book probably saved my life.
By Ian Parks
This book helped me stop using drugs cold turkey, no CMA meetings, no rehab, nothing. My life was literally falling apart around me. I was using drugs every day and was a depressed, ruined mess. I wish I could say that the drugs came first, and then the problems, but its the other way around: I had a lot of hard, confusing stuff going on in my life, and I started using drugs to medicate, make myself more social, etc. It started off as an occasional thing, but of course, before long, it became a daily crutch to deal with everything. Make no mistake. Crystal meth is a killer. I've watched friends...good decent people...turn into lying stealing scoundrels. I watched my best friend turn into a drug dealer, and now he's in prison for 3.5 years. This stuff is poison, literally poison, and the worst part was, I knew it the whole time. I knew I was self destructing. I was so guilty and ashamed every time I got high. The people I was surrounding myself with were not good people and I knew it. I wanted to stop using meth for over a year before the day finally came when enough crap hit the fan in the course of a single afternoon, that I threw up my hands in defeat and finally said "ok. ok. I get it. I'm ruining my life, and this has to stop. Enough is enough."
I've been to 12 step meetings before. I don't like them. I don't like the dogma, I don't feel a sense of community when I'm there, and while they may work for a lot of people, I knew they didn't work for me in a significant way. (If they work for you, more power to you. If you've never tried one, GO. Please go. You have to try it before you know if it works for you or if it doesn't. I hope it DOES work for you, because then you don't have to go through the sobering process alone, like I did.) So I didn't know where to start, I just knew I had to stop using meth. I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but I was terrified because I had no idea what I was in for or what was coming....
That's why this book is so amazing. This book tells you exactly what is coming, how long it will likely last, what's happening in your brain during each stage, what you can do to help yourself, why you can or can't do certain things, and will help you prepare for what is, without a doubt, a very difficult and rough road. Its easy to read, and is very friendly, like you're talking with a good friend who has been through this before and wants to help. A lot of times, I don't feel the need to really READ the book either. I flip through the chapters and pages for sections that catch my eye, and am always amazed at how helpful and truthful the tips and suggestions are. I have recommended this book to ever person I know who is attempting to get sober, and I give it the sole credit in helping me along on my way to sobriety. Its been incredibly difficult, and isolating, and depressing, and boring, and sad sometimes, and there are days when I feel so overwhelmed with the thought that I have ruined my life and things will never get better. But then I turn to this book, and it always helps me figure out what to do.
I'm 66 days sober today, I don't want meth, I can deal with the cravings I experience sometimes, and I'm going very strong. In fact, just the other week, I was working with a friend painting a house. I was uneasy being around this person because he was someone I had done drugs with before, so I knew drugs were nearby because I know he is still using, and I was worried I was gonna have a weak moment around him and would use again. At one point, I had to grab a tape measure from his backpack, and boom, right there, there it was. Right in front of my face. A pipe. A torch. And a bag of meth. And I stood there looking at it for a minute, and thought about what I felt. I could've easily picked it up and been smoking a hit within 15 seconds. But I didn't. I didn't want to use it. I didn't want to lose the 50-some days I had sober. Things were getting better, bit by bit, slowly but surely, and I didn't wanna welcome that poison, that life ruining lethal poison back into my world. So I stood there looking at it and thought about all the horrible awful things I had experienced because of it. And then I grabbed the tape measure, zipped up his backpack, and got back to work without a second thought.
I feel like I have my life back. For the first time in a long time, I feel like things are gonna be ok. Its not always easy, but no one said it was gonna be. "Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light". If you wanna quit using meth, you should buy this book. It might just make your way a little easier.

A great road map for a complicated journey
By Sober in Uptown
I've been looking for a resource about kicking meth, and this book really helped me know what I would be up against. I am grateful to have Joseph's knowledge about the different stages I would pass through, and especially the hope I got from knowing about resources like CMA (Crystal Meth Anonymous) and that getting clean is possible. I would recommend this book for anybody looking to quit meth, friends and family members affected by meth addiction, and recovery professionals that help people navigate a complex issue. Well done!

So glad I purchased and gave him this book to read
By Chris Gill
Our Son was addicted to Meth and quit cold turkey without help from anyone. I bought him the book and he reflects on it daily. It convinced him that there are others who have beat this addiction. So many times we hear only the horror stories and how "no one" can quit this habit. He is now 3 months clean and working hard at staying that way. So glad I purchased and gave him this book to read.
