This is one of the best books I have read concering the captive keeping of the savannah monitor. It was easy to read and had the most information on breeding I have ever seen. I think before anyone would consider purchasing a savannah I would recommend you read this book. Bravo Daniel and Ravi!!!!!!

Best book about monitor lizards!

This is easily the best book about keeping monitor lizards. The authors have so much experience and it shows! They even provide a section about the lizards in the wild. The advice on care and husbandry is far better than what I've found in any other book. These guys really know what they are talking about!

Best source for Savannah Monitors

This has got to be the best, well written varanid book I've found thus far.
I've read a lot of books regarding monitor lizards and their care and the Savannah monitor is so unique compared to other varanid species that you can't really compare their care to other monitors. Most varanid books are "one size fits all" when it comes to raising and breeding monitors. This book explains how this is not the case with the savannah monitor.
I wish I had this book when I first acquired some Savannah hatchlings which unfortunately died because I was using the basic "for all monitors" caresheets. These guys cannot tolerate high heats and are voracious insectivourous eaters. Feeding savannahs a diet made of mostly rodents is very unhealthy for them because of how they store fat and most pet stores sell Savannahs and inform people to feed them pinkies all the time.
This book covers everything from their natural habitat, history, demographics, the pet trade, their natural behaviors, and caring/breeding them in captivity. I have read this book cover to cover many, many times.
This book is invaluable and written by biologists that have lived and studied the Savannah in its natural habitat in Africa. They also raise and breed monitors so their experience and knowledge is priceless.
I recommend this book as a Necessity for any keeper with a Savannah monitor.
