Warning: Book is FULL of errors. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
By Amazon Customer
Trying to work my way though the book now. It is very clear that the editing team either didn't exist or only spell checked things. The entire book focuses on teaching you how to create a web site and yet the set up instructions are incorrect. I checked the forum on the books site and someone had asked about this.

The author said it was an error that got past the editing team.

How is that possible? A single attempt to go though the book would show that the project is literally impossible to create if you follow the instructions given inside. Heck you don't even need to go all the way through, just like 5-6 chapters (out of 18ish) before you hit an impossible wall.
My book is now filling with notes where the instructions are incorrect. I literally have found parts where the screenshots in the book do not match the given source code that you can download from the site.

Truly this was a mistake to buy. I am going to try an get as much out of it as I can but to everyone else: Stay away! This is not what you want

Needs substantial improvement.
By kevin r rothi
This book is passable, but could really use a rewrite. This book suffers from a common mistake in programming books; it needs a more conversational tone. Don't be verbose, just explain the topics and concepts to me like a normal person. This material isn't hard, but wading through the overly long explanations is boring and tedious and in effect makes the material hard to learn. The author tried to integrate a project into the book, but the project was too monolithic and didn't require the reader to think about what he or she was doing. "Just type this code here. Great job!" I liked that it covered web forms in addition to MVC, so if your company has any legacy products that still use web forms and is developing products using MVC, this might be a good book for you. For me personally, I felt it was mediocre at best, and needs to be heavily edited to make it up to the 3-4 star range. It would have to be completely rewritten with new projects/activities to be a 5 star book.

Great read with wonderful insights, exercises buggy
By S. Lee
The upside is, a lot of deep thought clearly went into the writing of this book; great insights into the architectural philosophy of asp.NET forms, MVC, and the use of Visual Studio 2015 to generate a highly functional web site; if not for that the rating would be MUCH lower due to the downside... The downside is, the technical review seems to have left a mountain of bugs in the execution of the exercises; granted, ASP.NET MVC is a moving target with "includes" (packages, whatever..) used for certain functionality being a bit dynamic over time as to their development re functionality and reliability. I would suggest a chapter on Visual Studio project/solution setup to synchronize the projects packages, using NuGet, to make sure the right package versions were in place before building the solution. Also, a thorough front to back check of the solution to de-bug it; as is, there are just too many bugs for a "Beginning" level book, and truth be told for any published work on a technology area. The author gets great kudos for such an insightful and thorough treatment on the ASP.Net framework, but the technical editor(s) need to do more than phone it in here. I'll bet the second edition will become the definitive ASP.Net teaching tool, but for now Pro HTML5 with VS2015 is a smoother ride.
